    Whiplash

Whiplash is an injury to the neck that occurs when the neck is suddenly and violently thrown back and forth from the force of impact. Whiplash most commonly occurs as a result of motor vehicle accidents. The violent motion from whiplash causes muscles, ligaments and other tissues to overstretch, resulting in injury. Whiplash can happen in sports injuries, such as when a person is tackled in football or hits their head on the ice in hockey.

Symptoms of whiplash may include neck pain, stiffness, and headaches. In more severe cases, there may also be symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. At Restore Health and Sport, treatment for whiplash includes education, range of motion exercises to keep you from getting too stiff, straightening and mobilizations.

    Suboccipital Headaches

ISub-occipital headaches are a type of headache that is characterized by pain in the back of the head, just above the neck. Sub-occipital headaches can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor posture, muscle tension or strain, and neck injuries. They may also be associated with other conditions such as sinusitis, eyestrain, or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). Symptoms of sub-occipital headaches may include a dull or throbbing pain in the back of the head, neck stiffness, and difficulty moving the head. TMJ Pain

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) is a condition that affects the joint that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull. This joint, known as the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), is responsible for allowing the jaw to move up and down and side to side, allowing us to speak, eat, and swallow.

TMJ disorder can be caused by a variety of factors, including teeth grinding or clenching, jaw injury, and stress. It may also be associated with other conditions, such as arthritis or bite problems. TMJ disorder symptoms may include pain or tenderness in the jaw, difficulty opening or closing the mouth, a clicking or popping sound when moving the jaw, and headaches.

At Restore Health and Sport, we assess how your jaw functions and your neck, too, to resolve TMJ pain. We give ergonomic advice, exercise, soft tissue work, and joint mobilization to the jaw and neck.
